Sierra Leone Rotary Club
The Rotary Club of Freetown conducts many activities that immensely benefit the people of Sierra Leone. Since the outbreak of the deadly ebola virus, the Club has supported radio stations that promote awareness and community mobilization in Bo, Kenema and Kailahun.
It has also provided buckets, soap and chlorine to the Aberdeen Creek Community in Freetown, as well as food items to patients at treatment centres in Freetown, Port Loko and Bombali.
The Club aims to construct an orphanage equipped with a health centre, school and play ground that will host 240 children.
The Salone Association donated USD4, 000 in December 2014 to the Rotary Club to help with the development of the ebola orphanage. link
Concert for Ebola Orphans
The Salone Association, in collaboration with CARITAS and the Sierra Leone Mission in Geneva, organized a Christmas concert in Geneva on 18 December 2014 for ebola orphans in Sierra Leone.
The One Step Gospel, which performed at the concert, is one of the best gospel choir groups in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.This well attended concert was patronized by Heads of diplomatic missions in Geneva who made generous donations to the cause of combating ebola in Sierra Leone.
The funds collected at the concert will be given to Caritas Sierra Leone for its work on ebola link. Caritas Sierra Leone has a rich tradition of work on social issues, including on HIV/Aids prevention, food security, emergency and humanitarian relief, youth empowerment, environmental protection, poverty reduction and gender equality.
In the wake of the ebola crisis, Caritas Sierra Leone has been providing livelihood support to vulnerable families and reuniting orphans and separated children with their extended families link.
RECENT ACTIVITIES
The Salone Association has so far contributed to the work of two organizations involved in the fight against the ebola virus disease. These are Rotary Club of Sierra Leone and Caritas. With our current fund raising drive to support ebola orphans, we intend to extend our financial assistance to other credible organizations working in Sierra Leone.
